After watching Split, Queens Gambit, and the VVitch she seems unstoppable now.
She does have a fivehead like Amanda Seyfried and these far apart bug eyes that creep me out more than Rami malek, but her acting skill makes up for it.
One good thing about Taylor-Joy that she seems pretty professional and humble, unlike J-Law's "I'm trying so hard to be cool by seeming not to care" attitude. I just hope there's no noodz to be leaked in the future.

Yes.
Jennifer Lawrence’s career is was driven by Harvey Weinstein, who’s in prison right now. That’s why her career stalled.

Taylor-Joy is more "striking" because her looks are unusual, but I think most straight men would prefer Jennifer Lawrence at the same age.,

Taylor-Joy may be smarter and a better actress though.

She comes across as too focused on her (very striking) looks to be a truly great actress. She’s already distorting her face, like Kidman did, which will eventually ruin her instrument.

she's hideous, unsettling to look at for long periods of time. women and gay guys love these weirdo looking alien freaks for some reason

Last Night in Soho is so underrated. Cool time travel mystery thriller set in swinging London.

Anorexic. Unusual looks, but only really works in weird, ethereal roles. Comes from lots and lots of money.

JLaw is a middle class girl from Louisville. People liked her because she seemed down to earth and would burp and drink beer (however manufactured that image is). Taylor Joy is too refined and wealthy to be JLaw type.

Anya Taylor-Joy is a far better actress and more photogenic than moon-faced, dead-eyed Jennifer Lawrence. The former also has better taste in material while the latter, when once asked what she looks for when choosing roles, said "nothing," punctuated by her trademark vapid giggle. Based on Lawrence's filmography, I believe it!

"Jennifer Lawrence’s career is was driven by Harvey Weinstein, who’s in prison right now. That’s why her career stalled."
Lawrence's career stalled because of too many franchises (all of which had diminishing creative returns), a shtick that the public tired off, working with the same people over and over again and poor choice of material.
I do think the Weinstein-connection is overrated. She got an Oscar nomination and featured in two franchises before her "Silver Linings" casting and was never nominated for another Weinstein film again.
And I always thought that Trintignant was the beating heart of "Amour" so I never understood the "let's get Riva an Oscar win" narrative.

Florence Pugh might be the new Jennifer Lawrence, but I don’t know if she’s opened any movies on her own.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 24, 2022 5:41 PM |
I've seen Pugh in Midsommar (what a fucked up movie) and that's it, so I have very little to base her performances, but she definitely over-acted in that film. Is she worthwhile to watch in anything else?
Taylor-Joy was great in Queen's Gambit, but she is VERY anorexic and it's offputting for me. Looking for any other suggestions for her films as well (I'll take a look for Last Night in Soho, sounds interesting).
Jennifer Lawrence sucks. That's all I'm going to say about her.

Taylor-Joy will have to get a handle on the eating disorder if she wants the A-list career. And it obviously is one, as she was normal-thin in her early roles. I saw her in publicity stills for Babylon and she looks like she's dying. It's going to turn off audiences.

Those publicity stills for Babylon, with Robbie as a brunette, make her look a lot like Angelina Jolie before Angie's eating disorders and other weirdnesses. This is also the type of role Angie would have been first-choice for 20 years ago. A lot has happened since then, though.

Anya really could play Karen Carpenter, though. She facially resembles her and they wouldn't have to do much CGI on her to play someone dying of an eating disorder. Sad but true.
